La siguiente
es una carta enviada por el Presidente de ALAPE
- Dr. Hernando Villamizar Gómez a su colega
de la Sociedad Haitiana de Pediatría - Dr.
Ronald Reivellard.
Apreciado
Dr. Ronald Reivellard, presidente de la filial Haití.
Nos dirigimos de nuevo a Ud. para
expresarle en nombre de las sociedades de pediatría
de los países de la región, nuestra
solidaridad por el devastador terremoto ocurrido,
que seguramente afecta en mayor proporción
a la población infantil.
Se suma esta catástrofe de
la naturaleza a la tragedia diaria, esta si producida
por la humanidad y a su incapacidad para resolverla,
que significa la vida para muchos niños y
niñas de la querida Haití.
Estamos tratando de concretar algunas
iniciativas ordenadas y efectivas que vayan más
allá de esta sentida expresión y que
ALAPE pueda canalizar. El Dr. José Brea,
presidente de la filial de RD, y miembro del actual
CD de ALAPE, nos ayuda a lograr la comunicación
con Ud. o con algunos colegas de su país,
para definir acciones.
Hemos contactado a los líderes,
pediatras capacitados en el marco de programa de
ALAPE y la AAP en atención de desastres,
para definir algún plan. Estamos en contacto
con altos dignatarios de la International Pediatric
Association-IPA, y con países afiliados de
Europa, para definir acciones.
A más largo plazo, estamos
conversando con agencias internacionales y ONGs
para trabajar con Haití en ayudar a paliar
sus graves problemas de salud pública, pues
creemos que no nos podemos quedar solo en la retórica,
sentida pero ineficiente ante la magnitud del problema,
sino adoptar un papel protagónico en los
asuntos que atañen a la salud integral de
la infancia de la región y concretamente
de Haití.

Dear Dr. Ronald Reivellard,
president of Haiti Pediatric Society
We write back to you to express
on behalf of pediatric societies of the countries
of the region, our solidarity with the devastating
earthquake, which probably disproportionately
affects the child population.
Adding this catastrophe of nature
to the daily tragedy, that if produced by the
human people and its inability to solve it, that
means life to many children of the beloved Haiti.
We are trying to realize some orderly
and effective initiatives that go beyond this
heartfelt expression and ALAPE can perform. Dr.
José Brea, president of the subsidiary,
Doninican Rep., and current member of ALAPE CD,
helps us to achieve communication with you or
with other members of his country, to define actions.
We have contacted the leaders,
pediatricians trained in the program under the
ALAPE-AAP, and disaster response, to define a
plan. We are in contact with high officials of
the International Pediatric Association-IPA, and
affiliated countries of Europe, to define actions.
In the longer term, we are talking
to international agencies and ONGs to work with
Haiti to help alleviate the serious public health
problems as we believe that we can not be just
rhetoric, but inefficient felt at the magnitude
of the problem but take a leading role in matters
pertaining to the health of the children of the
region and in particular Haiti.
