Thanks for your solidarity. Cause of shortage of power, it is difficult to keep in touch with you. The needs are enourmous. All the health structures in PauP are out of function and transportation is compromised. General Hospital is not totally collapsed and the pediatric department has been partially damaged. Most of us still spend night in the streets because the ground is still shaking from time to time and the house are not safe. I personnaly have tried to help in three hospitals but material come rapidly to an end while injured people where arriving. Examples: It took me a day and many kilometers to find help for my father. Dr Rgis, a pediatrician colleague has a femoral fracture and a maxilary one and can't have XRay nor analgesic nor any material to secure his broken leg. It is a distressful situation. Anyway, we are trying to organize the survival.

The list submitted by Luisa is a good starting point, adding analgesic, surgical material. I must have a meeting with Dr Claude Surena, president of Haitian Medical Association who is in charge to coordonate health rescue. I'll do my best to contact you for updates.

Dear friends, now I know that life is priceless and the best to do during a lifetime is making good to others (subrayado, mío)

Dear Ronald—So good to hear from you, but so sorry about your father and praying that he will recover—please do tell him that pediatricians everywhere are concerned and about him and about all of you and your people.
We have now been put in touch with Dr Jose Brea of the DR concerning finding a way to get some supplies to you and your colleagues. Also with Dr Villamizar who is President of the ALAPE. I have copied them both on this note.
I am going to be travelling to Nigeria just now and will not be in good contact for a few days now. Marlene and Marissa and Karen from IPA-AAP will be the main correspondents.
God bless you all, and please know how much pediatricians care about you and want to help.
Again, all good wishes for your father, and for you and your colleagues. Please let us know what we can do to help you through this terrible tragedy. Jane

Dear friends,
Unfortunately the time has come for us to call upon the participants of the PEDS courses to volunteer to help in Haiti. After the next few weeks the response phase will be completed and there will be NGOs in Haiti that will need assistance in providing medical care to the displaced population. The AAP is working closely with the IPA, ALAPE and many different organizations to recruit and coordinate pediatric volunteers. These volunteers can work for a few weeks or months. Can you contact the participants in your courses and forward the names and current positions, passport numbers (country), languages and time availability of those willing to volunteer. Please send these names to Alex Lule at the AAP who will work with Marisa Herran to link them with an appropriate NGOs working in Haiti.

The scope of destruction and misery in Haiti is beyond belief and I know that we all wish to assist our Haitian pediatric colleagues to alleviate the suffering of Haiti’s children and families.

This is the time to transform what we have learned into action.
